[Hiro doesn't say anything right away, still thinking about it. In the pause, the ring of light still coming through the manhole cover behind them goes dark, obstructed momentarily. He can feel the hair on the back of his neck prickle nervously; but then the light's back, and there's the slow and steady rumble of huge footsteps passing overhead at street level.
